BUKIT MERTAJAM: Nasmir Capsule Sdn Bhd, formerly known as Nasmir Holdings Sdn Bhd, plans to open a new factory to increase its production capacity by 2016 in a bid to meet export demand.
Its managing director Datuk Kadhar Shah Abdul Razak said the company had identified a location in Batu Kawan near here to build the new facility although it had not finalised the amount of investment for the project.
“Currently, our production capability is about 1.6 billion capsules annually, and over the next three years we hope to increase this to 6.5 billion with the addition of new machinery to meet the demand for halal capsule in the country.
“We expect to produce much more in the next two years as the company plans to penetrate the Middle East market, hence our plan is to build a new factory,” he told reporters after presenting a contribution for school needs to underprivileged families here today.
Nasmir allocates some RM200,000 to provide assistance to 1,500 families in Penang, Kedah and Perak.
Nasmir Capsule is a supplier, distributor, importer and exporter of empty halal gelatine capsules and is the sole company to attain recognition from the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (Jakim) as a producer of halal capsule made from beef bones.
Besides the local market, the company’s products are also exported to Colombia, Chile, Thailand, Vietnam, Pakistan and Indonesia.
Meanwhile, Kadhar Shah, who is also managing director of Nasmir Holding Sdn Bhd, said the group will set up Yayasan Nasmir in February next year to help the underprivileged especially in relation to education.
“The foundation will play a role in channelling assistance especially to those who are underprivileged and our focus is more in the education sector particularly for potential students,” he said.
Through the foundation, the company also hoped to sponsor more students for tertiary education at institutes of higher learning. “We now sponsor 20 students at a time and via the foundation we hope to increase to 50 students, whereby they will be given full assistance until they complete their education,” he said.
