UKās only Islamic insurer targets entrepreneurs
Salaam Halal, the UK’s only standalone Islamic insurer, will expand next year to offer takaful insurance to companies run by Muslim business owners. The insurer, which launched in 2008 providing car insurance and more recently home insurance, is targeting the two million Muslims living in the UK.

Burkini banned in Paris
Muslim women wearing decent clothes have always been an issue not only in non-Muslim countries but also in some Muslim majority countries. Issues regarding the use of the hijab, a headscarf worn by Muslim women, have been raised many times before. Halal meat step closer to assurance scheme
UK Halal meat took a step closer to gaining an assurance scheme, such as the Red Tractor standard, after a meeting between campaigners and Defra. Minister for Food and Farming Jim Fitzpatrick MP met with the Efra Select Committee member David Taylor MP and Halal meat campaigner and Janan Meat MD Naved Syed to discuss gaining ministerial support for a Halal assurance scheme.

The first session of the second day of the World Halal Forum (WHF) Europe in The Hague kicked off with deliberations on major issues and concerns in the Halal industry with regards to supply chain management, animal welfare and ritual slaughter.

The first regional World Halal Forum (WHF) kicked off today at the World Forum Convention Centre in The Hague, Netherlands. Themed ‘Halal Potential – A Regional Focus’, WHF Europe began with a doa recitation followed by welcome remarks by the founder of the World Halal Forum, Hajjah Jumaatun Azmi, who is also the managing director of the organiser, KasehDia Sdn Bhd.
Halal⦠inclusion or exclusion?
Riding the wave of the expanding global Halal market industry – estimated to have reached a worth of USD580 billion in 2008 – communication arts company KasehDia will hold this November the first World Halal Forum in Europe. As location for the Forum, which is themed ‘Halal Potential – A Regional Focus’, the organisers opted for the Dutch city of The Hague.

A Persian in London
After a morning of shopping at Whiteleys, London’s first departmental store, I walked along Westbourne Grove in Bayswater in search of a good and hearty lunch. Five minutes from Whiteleys, I saw the words “Halal Cuisine” plastered on a shiny glass door that opens to the welcoming warmth and the smell of baking bread (because of the traditional clay oven for baking bread right at the entrance) that envelopes a cosy Persian interior filled to the brim with people from different cultures and ethnicities. This restaurant is called Alounak, and it serves the finest Persian cuisine.
