Gulfood 2010 sees record Australian meat industry participation
The largest contingent of Australian meat exporters to have ever assembled at an international food show is converging to Dubai this week to participate at Gulfood 2010, in a further demonstration of the region’s importance to Australia’s meat industry. A total of 22 meat exporters from Down Under are hosted at the Meat & Livestock Australia (MLA) pavilion, widely anticipated to be at the centre of Gulfood visitors’ attention for its contribution to the estimated annual US$ 180 million red meat products’ trade between Australia and the Middle East.

Tesco talking lamb prices
Supermarkets have a limited ability to raise the retail price of lamb, a buyer with one of the world's largest retailers says. Sam Pearl, the chilled-lamb buyer with British supermarket company Tesco, told farmers at a sheep and beef forum organised by Silver Fern Farms in Gore last week that, individually, supermarkets were small players in marketing sheep meat.

Meat and Livestock Australia supports Gulfood 2010
The Australian meat & livestock industry will be actively involved in the Gulfood 2010 edition to be held during February 21-24, in a step that reflects its commitment to the highly-important ME markets, according to Mr. Lachlan Bowtell, the Regional Manager of Meat & Livestock Australia (MLA), the international marketing arm of Australian meat and livestock producers.
NZ Islamic Fed Questions Indonesian Halal Credentials
The Federation of Islamic Associations of New Zealand (FIANZ) has objected to the Indonesian Council of Ulema (MUI)’s move to make mandatory obtaining Halal from the councils own certification before it was sold in its country. The federation’s response came after the MUI, Indonesia's highest authority on Islamic affairs issued a statement last week that many products imported from New Zealand, the US, Australia and some European countries carried Halal labels but did not always trust their certification standards.
