Halal Industry should take stock, says Malaysian Prime Minister at 5th World Halal Forum

Malaysian Prime Minister, YAB Dato’ Sri Najib Tun Haji Abdullah Razak sent a strong message to the global Halal industry to reassess and reevaluate before moving forward in his keynote address delivered to over 900 delegates from close to 50 countries at the 5th World Halal Forum recently.

 

World Halal Research takes off for developing the Halal industry

The Halal Industry Development Corporation (HDC) today announced that two MoUs will be signed with a private sector university and a foreign country to further R&D in Halal Science. To be officially signed during Halal week in conjunction with the launch of the World Halal Research Summit on 23 June, the R&D collaborations will enhance the country’s first steps into inculcating a knowledge-based Halal industry. The MoUs will be signed with Taylors College and the Government of Tehran, to be witnessed respectively by the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) and the Ministry of Science Technology and Innovation (MOSTI).

Hotel associations support Jakim to check on Halal Certs

Malaysian Association of Hotels (MAH) fully supports the Government’s efforts to ensure Malaysia in becoming a recognised Halal hub. It’s President - YBhg. Datuk Hj. Mohd Ilyas Zainol Abidin said that the association together with Malaysian Association of Hotel Owners (MAHO) are registered members of the Focus Group on Halal Certification which is led by the Malaysian Administrative Modernisation and Management Planning Unit (MAMPU) and has been having regular meetings with the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (JAKIM) to ensure its members receive their Halal certificates. Newly elected MAHO President YBhg Dato’ Sri Abdul Aziz Abd Rahman added that both associations since last year have been actively involved and working closely with JAKIM addressing and ironing out relevant administrative and processing issues pertaining to Halal certification for hotel restaurants.
