MISC launches second Halal service
MISC has begun the second of its Halal Express services, operating six 4500 teu vessels on a 42-day round voyage between Dammam and Japan. The line launched the first service in 2006 using four 1200 teu ships, and emphasised its compliance with Islamic standards for foodstuffs.

Manufacturing sector draws more investors from China
More Chinese investors are investing in the Malaysian manufacturing sector, following both governments' efforts to foster closer business ties, International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Mustapa Mohamed says. Between January and June this year, approved investment projects with Chinese interest totalled RM150.3 million and manufacturing projects with participation from China were mainly in the basic metal, rubber products and transport equipment sectors.

Part 1 of this series introduced the Islamic Voluntary sector and Bangladesh’s Cash-Waqf Certificate; the second part covered the objectives and implications of the Cash-Waqf Certificate, introduced an interesting area of economic analysis of resource allocation in public finance, and highlighted the operational guidelines of this scheme as operated in three Islamic Banks in Bangladesh. The third part will close this series with 32 purposes of utilisation of the Cash-Waqf fund, challenges of introducing this scheme to Bangladesh, Indonesia, and the US, as well as recommendations for the way forward, among others.

AMC leads Halal incursion into China
Asia Management & Consultancy Sdn. Bhd. (AMC), a Malaysian private limited company, is one company that looks to China as a haven to push the Halal initiative. According to CEO Jerry Yap, the company is gearing up to co-organise the first China (Yiwu) Halal Food and Muslim Products Expo with Xi’an Muslim Business Chamber of Commerce and China Tongyuan Co., Ltd, on 18 to 20 November 2009.
