MALAYSIA: New book âMarketing Halalâ out now to help entrepreneurs in the Halal industry
The global Halal market will once again look to Malaysia as a key mover of the Halal industry with the publication of ‘Marketing Halal: Creating New Economy, New Wealth’, an informative book by Liow Ren Jan, which is fully endorsed by the Halal Industry Development Corporation (HDC). The book which is a publication of MPH Group Publishing was launched by the CEO of HDC, Dato’ Seri Jamil Bidin at the MPH Carnival 2011 in Mid Valley Exhibition Centre. In his foreword, Dato’ Seri Jamil said that the book will once again serve to position Malaysia as a thought leader in the global Halal arena. This would be an excellent read for entrepreneurs or academics who are interested in Halal marketing. It was noted in the book that Halal authorities such as the HDC are more than encouraging for entrepreneurs venturing into the Halal business.
BRUNEI: Brunei sukuk issuances total $3.651 billion
The Autoriti Brunei Darussalam (AMBD) has announced the successful pricing of $100 million worth of sukuk or Islamic bonds. The latest issuance brings to over $3.651 billion the total sukuk issued by the Brunei Government since the Sukuk Al-Ijazah programme began in April 2006. AMBD is the managing and administering agent for Sukuk Al-Ijarah issuances. In a statement released yesterday, AMBD announced the successful pricing of the 68th issuance of the Sukuk Al-Ijarah Securities, which will carry a maturity of 91 days ending on 8 March 2012.
MALAYSIA: Malay Chamber to facilitate QSR stake buy
The Malay Chamber of Commerce Malaysia (DPMM) has offered to facilitate, on behalf of the Tabung Haji Board, Amanah Saham Mara Bhd and Felda, the purchase of Kulim Bhd's interest in QSR Brands Bhd worth over RM1 billion. DPMM chairman Syed Ali Al Attas said the chamber's move would prevent QSR becoming a private company if it is taken over by Johor Corp Bhd (JCorp). JCorp now owns 53 per cent of Kulim, which has a 57.5 per cent stake in QSR, which in turn owns 50.6 per cent of KFC Holdings (Malaysia) Bhd (KFCH).
MALAYSIA: Halal Market a Typical Blue Ocean for SMEs, Says Mukhriz
Small and medium-sized entrepreneurs (SMEs) should seize the lucrative potentials within the burgeoning global Halal market as it is the epitome of the Blue Ocean strategy, Deputy International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir says. "When a market seems saturated, the next best thing to do is to create a new market. The Halal industry is exactly that," he said in an exclusive interview published in the International Halal SME Report Directory 2011/12. Although Malaysia might be a bit behind as Halal food producers, it did well in propagating the ideas and growing a global industry from scratch to one that was now worth in excess of US$2 trillion a year, he said. Currently, the global demand for Halal products is valued at about RM7 trillion from a population of 1.8 billion Muslims.
PAKISTAN: Punjabâs meat just got better
The Punjab government will inaugurate the country’s first state-of-the-art slaughterhouse, Lahore Meat Processing Complex (LMPC), at Shahpur Kanjran, on Sunday. The provincial government in collaboration with the Mashad Meat Industrial Complex, Iran, has invested Rs 1.5 billion on the slaughterhouse, which has been completed in a record period of eight months. Speaking to Pakistan Today, Punjab Agriculture and Meat Company (PAMCO) Senior Project Manager Dr Asif Suleman Sahi said that Lahorites would start getting fresh and hygienic meat from the next week as the LMPC had capacity to slaughter 1,000 cows and 12,000 goats daily.

Halal Industry Development CorporaMALAYSIA:tion (HDC) vice-president Dr Malik Musharaf said Malaysia was only tapping into less than one per cent of the market, taking in about RM58 billion of the share. “The global Halal eco-system is worth more than US$2.3 trillion (RM9 trillion) annually and is fast gaining attention worldwide.” He said the Halal eco-system cut across many industries, ranging from Halal food, non-food products and Halal related services industry, including Islamic banking and finance, Halal logistic, tourism and healthcare.
MALAYSIA: JAKIM Has No Plans to Announce Non-compliant Premises
The Malaysian Islamic Development Department (JAKIM) has no plans to announce the list of business premises that failed the Non-Compliance Report (NCR) of the Malaysian Halal Certification. Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Dr Mashitah Ibrahim said the decision was made to avoid misunderstanding on the Halal status of a particular building. "The NCR is issued after JAKIM has carried out an inspection and finds that the premises concerned does not comply with conditions specified such as the employees do not wear gloves or aprons, unhygienic and so on," she told the Senate.

After all, they are the directors of Organic Candle Manufacturing Sdn Bhd, a factory which they set up in Sg Petani, Kedah, in 2001 to produce vegetable-based candles.
