Halal Meals on Wheels offered in parts of Wayne County
Mariam Wehbe lives alone and can no longer stand on her feet to prepare her meals. A devout Muslim, she needs to eat dishes that meet religious requirements, but her options are limited. That's why Wehbe, 70, is glad to be part of Michigan's first Halal Meals on Wheels program. The program, which is also believed to be the first in the nation, provides meals made with meat butchered using a process outlined in the Quran, the religious text of Islam.
Gulfood in Dubai will have 26 Brazilian meat companies
Of the 50 Brazilian companies that are going to participate in Gulfood, a trade fair for the food industry that will be held in Dubai from 21 to 24 February, 14 are poultry producers. The stand of the Brazilian Poultry Exporters Association (Abef) will house nine enterprises, and five other affiliated companies will have their own stands.

Anchorage's first Halal grocery opens
On an icy winter day when the sun barely rose higher than the peaks of the Chugach Mountains, one store in a sleepy strip mall near the airport was abuzz with activity. The hand-lettered cardboard sign outside told the story: Alaska's First Halal Grocery. Inside, owner Lamin Jobarteh was pricing bottles of bright-orange palm oil, a product he was sure would fly off the shelves as soon as he called the Nigerians in town to let them know it had arrived. A group of Somali women in brightly coloured headscarves looked through a gleaming white freezer for cubed bone-in goat meat.
