IFANCA® to Address Fast Growing US Halal Food Market at Institute of Food Technologists (IFT) Annual Meeting and Food Expo 2010 in Chicago

The Islamic Food and Nutrition Council of America (IFANCA®) will be exhibiting their halal certification and information services from July 17, to 20, 2010, at the Institute of Food Technologists Annual Meeting and Food Expo 2010. IFANCA®’s display booth, #5101, will offer free halal certification consultations to IFT Expo attendees for its entire duration.

Is Cloned Meat Halal?

After an exhaustive evaluation, US FDA’s findings suggest meat from cloned animals are safe for consumption and as such, regulators feel there should not be any special labels to differentiate meats from cloned animals or otherwise. But not everyone agrees. As world population continues to grow unabated, addressing food shortage remains a global concern to the extent traditional food production boundaries are constantly being pushed.  One such advancement, albeit a controversial one, is the cloning technology.

 

 

Helping to feed the world

The Halal Journal met with the President of the Brazilian Beef Export Industries Association, or ABIEC, Marcus Vinicius Pratini de Moraes. Created in 1979 due to the need for the beef exporters to have a more focused and aggressive actuation on the defense of their specific interests, ABIEC is the main representing entity of the sector in domestic and international forums, dealing with the regulation and opening of markets. The creation of the Brazilian Beef Export Industries Industries Association (ABIEC) represented a milestone for the sector and for Brazilian economy as well, because the institution conveyed the concerns of its associates and made their communication with domestic governmental entities, other sector entities and international agencies much easier.

 

Brazil urged to target larger Halal food market share

The UAE, targeted as a potential hub for Brazilian trade in the Middle East, represents a growing market for Brazilian Halal food exports, though it experienced a sharp decline in construction materials trade over the past three years.

A short film about the scientific heritage of Muslim civilisation has won NINE awards at the New York Festival, including the prestigious “Best Film” gong. 1001 Inventions and The Library of Secrets, starring Oscar-winning screen legend Sir Ben Kingsley, dominated proceedings at the 53rd annual New York Festivals International Television & Film Awards held on 3rd May 2010, taking away more prizes than any other contender.

Over 30 per cent of Brazils poultry meat exports go to Middle East

More than 30 per cent of Brazil’s poultry meat exports are transported to the Middle East, the South American country’s leading market for the commodity, with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait among the top buyers. Brazil shipped around 1.4 million tons of chicken in 2009, representing a 22.7 per cent growth from 2008 and revenues of USD 1.9 billion. Exports are expected to grow further in 2010, with January data revealing a 37 per cent sales increase to USD 141.8 million over the corresponding period in 2009.

Muslim Staffers Have Faith in a Tolerant Hill
