THAILAND: Thaifex – World of Food Asia serves up an international gastronomical fare

MALAYSIA: World Halal Forum’s integrated Halal economy plan gets the thumbs up from the world
The 6th World Halal Forum (WHF) provided the platform for fundamental change within the global Halal industry yet again, with several important announcements and launches held over the two days, from 4th to 5th April. Based on feedback from over 600 delegates who came from over 40 countries, this year’s WHF hit the right note by converging Islamic Finance and the Halal Industry, into one integrated Halal Economy. This positive response is a promising step forward for both industries to work closer together to elevate the Halal economy, with Islamic Finance as the key driver in this new world economy that seeks to serve 1.8 billion Muslims worldwide.

MALAYSIA: The 6th World Halal Forum creates a notable paradigm shift
World Halal Forum, the Halal industry’s premier event opened with over 600 delegates from over 40 countries at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre today. This international forum which is held in Malaysia annually marked the start of “Halal Malaysia Week”, a week-long series of Halal industry events. Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, Former Prime Minister of Malaysia and a strong advocate of the global Halal industry delivered the keynote address at the Opening Ceremony.

World’s first Halal Index to be launched at the 6th World Halal Forum!
A first of its kind ‘Halal Index’ will be unveiled at the upcoming World Halal Forum (WHF) 2011, which will serve to position Halal as a new Asset Class within Islamic Finance. The Halal Index will comprise of over 200 publicly-listed food producers in the Muslim world with a combined market cap of over USD100 billion. This launch is in line with the new direction for World Halal Forum, which will look into the convergence of two massive industries – Islamic Finance and the Halal sectors – into one single Halal Economy estimated to be worth in the trillions of US Dollars. The theme for WHF 2011 is “Towards a Halal Economy: The Power of Values in Global Markets”.

WHF aims to bring a renewed spirit of creative vision and inspiration to the Halal market
As we enter a new decade, the World Halal Forum recognise the formulation of a new chapter of development for the Halal sector. In the words of the Malaysian Prime Minister, YAB Dato Seri Najib Tun Razak, “We need to think beyond industries and move into the larger realm of a Halal Economy…a value-based economy rooted in trust, integrity and fairness”.
