Meat matters: Halal meat moot in December

An international conference on “Halal meat” will be held on December 14-15 in Lahore. Delegates from 16 countries are participating in the conference aimed at introducing Pakistani Halal products abroad. On the first day, researchers will present their papers while the second day has been allocated for field visits. Dr Hamid said PAMCO’s objective was to promote the Halal Industry by developing the Agriculture and Livestock sectors.

 

BAHRAIN: Spotlight on Islamic finance

 More than 1,200 industry leaders, senior decision-makers and key regulators from over 50 countries are set to gather at the 18th annual World Islamic Banking Conference (WIBC 2011) in Bahrain. Hosted with the strategic partnership of the Central Bank of Bahrain and supported by the Economic Development Board of Bahrain, WIBC 2011 will be held at the Gulf International Convention Centre, Gulf Hotel from November 21-23. The theme for this year’s WIBC, ‘Competing for Global Growth’, reflects the expanding geographical footprint of Islamic finance and the increasing presence of Islamic financial institutions in new jurisdictions that is providing significant opportunities for cross-border trade and investment flows that are Shariah-compliant.

U.S.A: IFANCA® Speaks on Halal Goat Demand at International Goat Symposium 2011

The Chicago-based Islamic Food and Nutrition Council of America (IFANCA®) will be speaking and sponsoring this year’s International Goat Symposium (IGS), Canada’s premier educational and networking event for Ontario’s goat industry. This annual event will take place in Orangeville/Toronto, Canada, from November 2 to 6, 2011. IGS is an annual conference to discuss new opportunities arising in the goat industry. Education sessions range from farm management information to the latest goat market trends. Featured along with Canada’s Royal Agricultural Winter Fair, the IGS is an important international forum that aims to educate international visitors about Canada’s goat industry.

PAKISTAN: Int’l moot on promotion of Halal meat

 An international conference on promotion of “Halal Meat” will be held on December 14-15 in the city. Delegates from 16 countries will participate in the conference aimed at introducing Pakistani Halal products all over the world. Pakistan Agriculture and Meat Company (PAMCO) Chief Executive Officer Dr Hamid Jalil explaining the objectives of the conference, told newsmen that it would be a unique moot which included practical aspects of learning. He said it had been divided into two segments, on first day, the researchers would present their papers while the second day allocated for field visits. These visits include a State of the Art facility set-up by PAMCO costing $300 million with the cooperation of Iran, M-3 Halal Industrial Park at Faisalabad, National Institute of Food and Technology (NIFT), University of Agriculture, Faisalabad and a Halal Laboratory set-up at University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore so that the delegation from different countries may see the actual research work.

 

MALAYSIA: Mercy Mission Malaysia Stages Twins of Faith Family Festival in December

Mercy Mission Malaysia (MMM) confirmed that it will stage the first-ever Twins of Faith Family Festival in Malaysia on the 24-25th December 2011 at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC). It is the first International family festival of its kind that includes talks, entertainment, performances by local and international artists catering for the Muslim and Non Muslim communities. The festival will feature prominent world renowned Islamic scholars from Canada, Australia, Egypt, United Kingdom as well as Malaysia. The Family Festival will offer a dedicated room to the mothers who need to take care of young children whilst still being able to listen to the lectures, obtain nutrition and health advise. The children’s activities will be mainly in the Kids Play Zone area complete with the fun based learning Islamic games, storytelling sessions and movies screenings.

MALAYSIA: HDC's HALFEST Sees 287 Business Matching Sessions & 122 Potential Supplier Opportunities

A total of 287 business matching sessions and 122 potential supplier opportunities resulted at the seminar on Trade Relations and Business Matching Sessions organised by Halal Industry Development Corporation (HDC). The seminar was organised in conjunction with Halal Fiesta Malaysia (HALFEST 2011) on Oct 14 in Kuala Lumpur, HDC said in a statement. During the matching sessions, HDC invited 11 major companies from four main sectors namely retail, hotel, aviation and trade.

TURKEY: International Halal Congress Opened in Turkey

The 1st International Halal Congress opened in Ankara with the participation of more than 16 countries. Participants to the Congress were members of their respective countries’ chambers of commerce, as well as international manufacturers, academics and food experts. The topics of the Congress included: Halal products (food stuffs, raw goods, necessity food stuffs, laboratories, standardization of documents, accreditation etc.), Halal medicines, Halal cosmetics and other hygienic products, Halal services (collective food services, hotels, restaurants and tourism sector, banking, transport and collective vehicles)

MALAYSIA: Halfest 2011 Eyes 50,000 Visitors, RM28 Mln Sales

 Halfest chief executive officer Mohd Shukri Abdullah said at a press conference here today that the exhibition is open to the general public regardless of age, unlike MIHAS (International Halal Showcase) which focuses on exporting companies and visitors aged 18 and above. He said while MIHAS has expanded and focuses on companies that are capable of exporting their products, Halfest is a new platform for companies that have yet to come up with exportable products. MIHAS also imposes strict conditions for participation, and last year barred 130 local companies without export capability, he added.

MALAYSIA: Mara Expects Entrepreneurs to Record RM5 Million Sales at Halfest 2011

 Its Deputy Director General (Entrepreneur) Mohd Rosdi Ismail said a total of 155 booths have been allocated for Mara entrepreneurs involved in areas such as food and beverage, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, nutrition and clothing. "Their involvement will strengthen the capability to participate actively in the local Halal industry and then internationally," he told Bernama here today. The five-day event, at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC), is being held to strengthen and stimulate the local Halal industry for the export market. Mohd Rosdi said the most important thing is for the entrepreneurs to have an opportunity to interact with end users to obtain bad or good feedback pertaining to their products or services.

MALAYSIA: Mara - Halfest 2011 an Avenue for Bumi Entrepreneurs to Expand Their Market

The upcoming Halal Fiesta 2011 (Halfest 2011) would be an avenue for Bumiputera entrepreneurs to explore opportunities to expand the market for their products as well as inspire them to continue to produce quality goods of international standards. Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) in a statement said its involvement in Halfest 2011 was part of its focus to strengthen the presence of Bumiputera entrepreneurs in the areas of manufacturing and food production. With the Halfest 2011, MARA expects to create a platform for the entrepreneurs to establish strategic networks in their respective industries that would ultimately benefit their businesses, it said.
