Meat Industry Association chairman Bill Falconer, says the New Zealand meat industry and Malaysian authorities are still working on a new halal standard to allow beef shipments to resume to that market, which was closed to New Zealand exports more than a year ago.
Halal certification is needed to meet Islamic religious requirements in Muslim countries.
Mr Falconer says Indonesia has notified new rules which could ban all imports of meat and offals.
He says no reasons have been given; but the meat industry hopes it won't have to re-negotiate halal standards for export to Muslim countries, market by market.
