KL to host Global Islamic Finance Forum

Next week, bigwigs and players of the global Islamic banking and finance industry will gather in Kuala Lumpur for the Global Islamic Finance Forum (GIFF).

Among those expected are Dallah Albaraka Group president Sheikh Saleh Abdullah Kamel, The Islamic Development Bank president Dr Ahmad Muhammad Ali, China Banking Regulatory Commission chief adviser Andrew L.T. Cheng, Financial Stability Institute chairman Josef Tosovsky and central bank governors from many countries.

Bank Negara, which is hosting the forum, expects about 1,000 people to attend it.

The event kicks off from March 26 to 29 with panel and interactive sessions expected to generate great interest.

The GIFF is held in conjunction with the Islamic Financial Services Board (IFSB) annual meetings and events, said Bank Negara in a statement.

The theme of GIFF is Fostering Linkages In Islamic Finance.

The IFSB inaugural public lecture on financial policy and stability will be held on March 26 and will be chaired by Bank Negara governor Tan Sri Dr Zeti Akhtar Aziz.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi will give his speech on March 27 while Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak will deliver a special address a day later.

The Governors Forum will be held on March 27 and several local and foreign speakers will give their views at the many panel and interactive sessions.

The speakers include Securities Commission chairman Datuk Zarinah Anwar, Khazanah Nasional Bhd managing director Datuk Azman Mokhtar, CIMB Bhd CEO Datuk Nazir Razak, Employees Provident Fund CEO Datuk Azlan Zainol and Kuwait Finance House Malaysia Bhd director/chief economist and research Baljeet Kaur Grewal.
