THE HALAL JOURNAL AWARDS
THE COMMENTS OF THE PANEL OF JUDGES
BEST HALAL PRODUCT
MIDAMAR CORPORATION, USA
Following the US Beef Export Ban that started in 2004, US food manufacturers and also international food retailers and restaurant chains were all faced with immediate problems. With the popular beef-based bacon and sausage items that are widely used in the Halal food industry in the retail, hospitality and food service sectors suddenly not available from US suppliers, a quick solution was needed. To overcome these supply-chain shortages, which were also compounded by the drop in demand for chicken products, Midamar Corporation, by drawing on 30 years of experience, responded with a range of imaginative and well-conceived turkey-based products. Combining great taste and upmarket packaging, this new Midamar range, led by their top-selling Seasoned Turkey Topping Pizza and the Turkey Sausage with Pepperoni Pizza, supplied the immediate demand in the retail and food service sectors in both domestic and overseas markets. Turning adversity into opportunity, Midamar have come up with an award winning range of turkey products confirming their status as Halal market pioneers.

OUTSTANDING PERSONAL ACHIEVEMENT IN THE HALAL INDUSTRY
DATO’ JAMALUDDIN ABDUL KADIR
It is not simply that Dato’ Jamaluddin, after 15 years as a banker, built Prima Agri-Products from a butchers shop in Taman Tun to a successful company with 200 employees, exporting over 200 different products to Europe, the Middle East and South East Asia. By going on to develop the Prima production park in Kuantan, Dato Jamaluddin has turned his own success into an avenue of opportunity for others. Offering turnkey opportunities to up and coming small enterprises and companies, Prima’s business model allows newcomers to utilise Prima’s 20 years of experience and expertise to build their own success. Far from resting on the laurels of his own success, Dato’ Jamaluddin has set an example of creative thinking, entrepreneurial initiative and a generosity of spirit that not only benefits Malaysia’s national Halal Hub ambitions, but has also created a model that can be emulated across the world. From a small butchers shop, to building a company that supplies some of the world’s leading international hotels, supermarkets and restaurant chains, to developing a food production business model that will bring benefit and capacity building wherever it is replicated, Dato’ Jamaluddin has blazed a trail that any of us would be proud to follow.
