A delegation comprising the sultanate's SME operators will be attending the World Halal Forum (WHF) 2007 and the 4th Malaysia International Halal Showcase (MIHAS) 2007 next month, in an effort to explore the halal food frontiers and to tap the industry worth billions of dollars annually.
Led by Pg Shahminan Pg Hj Ismail, the leader of Federation of Brunei Malay Entrepreneurs, the group will leave Brunei on May 7 in order to attend WHF 2007 on May 7 and May 8, and the first few days of the five-day MIHAS 2007 commencing May 9.
MIHAS 2007 is hosted by the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) and organised jointly by MATRADE with the Islamic Dakwah Foundation Malaysia (YADIM), in association with the Ministry of Entrepreneur and Cooperative Development (MECD).
WHF 2007 is organised by KasehDia Sdn Bhd, and is hosted for the first time this year by the Halal Industry Development Corporation (HDC). The WHF has managed to exceed expectations by exploring new ideas on what usually constitutes as "halal" and their applications.
Together with MIHAS, the WHF has reintroduced "halal" products from a different perspective, and has created a prominent platform that has spurred the dynamic growth of the global halal industry.
Both events - themed "Expanding the Halal Frontiers" and "Harmonising the Global Halal Market" respectively - will be held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC).
Pg Shahminan said the SME Group will be attending the two events to show their commitment in trying to promote the local halal industry on a global scale, and its seriousness in consolidating its resources to market the industry.
MIHAS, which will be held for the fourth consecutive time, has made its mark in the global halal industry and has successfully managed to place Malaysia as a leader of the industry in its own right.
WHF, which is into its second year of organising, has indeed managed to open the world's eyes, especially those of major industry players, on the various opportunities that lie in front of them.
He said the two-day forum would discuss the challenges and business opportunities available in the industry, with important topics such as manufacturing, science and research, logistics, investment models, halal market growth and also global halal standards.
The forum is a good platform, and comes at an opportune time to consolidate and gather all the players to work as a cohesive, united body.
Besides presentations by guest speakers, the forum will have a combination of plenary and breakout sessions, to better encourage the exchange of views and ideas, experiences and discussions on possible ways to promote and strengthen the commercial applications of halal food in its entire value chain.
MIHAS 2007 is a platform to further promote local halal products in the international market.
"Some of our local industry players will also participate in MIHAS 2007 in their bid to promote their products at the international level," Pg Shahminan Pg Hj Ismail said.
