The Halal Industry Development Corporation (HDC) will work closely with international leaders within the global food and consumer industries as it sets out to create the critical mass needed to drive robust growth within the Halal industry.

Datuk Jamil Bidin, Chief Executive Officer of HDC, said, “HDC will work very closely with all relevant agencies and organisations, both public and private, to achieve its vision and mission in elevating Halal as the global standard of choice and to make Malaysia a global Halal hub.”

This objective was outlined at a briefing undertaken by Dato' Jamil to Datuk Seri Abdullah Haji Ahmad Badawi and Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, as they undertook a tour of the Ninth Malaysia Plan Exposition’s booths at the UMNO General Assembly, currently being held at the Putra World Trade Centre, Kuala Lumpur.

Dato' Jamil, appointed as the Chief Executive Officer of the corporation in early August 2006, undertook a special briefing on the latest developments within the Halal industry, stressing the importance to position Malaysia at the centre of this global growth and accelerated development.

“Admittedly, this is a huge responsibility but it is imperative that everybody realises that HDC’s vision and mission can and will be realised. Malaysia has so much to offer with regards to this. We have to diligently strategise, plan clearly and work towards increasing the level of working relationships between the related agencies and organisations within the local Halal industry,” said Dato' Jamil.

He added that Malaysia is blessed with so many advantages that can be utilised to get far-reaching results. He said, “The palm oil industry, for instance, is a sleeping giant that has so much potential to take Malaysia on a global platform. This oil is capable of replacing other animal or vegetable-based oils and fats, especially in this health-conscious age and era where consumers are ever so particular about their health and strive to lead a healthy lifestyle.”

The country’s excellent infrastructure as well as the government’s highly regarded Halal certification and logo are just some of the many strong foundations that can be used as solid basis for consideration by the global foods and consumer manufacturers. “We only have to begin realising our strengths and start profiting from it,” he said.

The Ninth Malaysia Plan Exposition is currently held in conjunction with the annual UMNO General Assembly which will end this weekend.
