DUBAI, Sept 13 (Bernama) - The Ministry of Entrepreneur and Cooperative Development is studying the possibility of making it compulsory for entrepreneurs wanting to apply loans from SME Bank to have their own website.
Its minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said the move is aimed at making it easier for entrepreneurs to promote, advertise and market their products wider.
"If they use ICT in business, it will surely help to increase the marketing of their products and sales. This way, they can pay back their loans," he told Bernama, here.
Mohamed Khaled, who is leading a Malaysian trade mission to West Asia to promote Malaysian halal products, said this after officiating the Malaysian Halal Products For The World pavilion, in conjunction with the Dubai International Halal Exhibition 2006 (DIHAS 2006).
For entrepreneurs to penetrate international market, he said they should be IT savvy.
Mohamed Khaled said the IT usage rate among entrepreneurs especially micro entrepreneurs is low and steps should be taken to overcome the problem.
The idea to make it compulsory for companies to have their own website came following a visit to Tejari FZ-LCC in Dubai, he said.
Tejari, a government-linked company, operates an "on-line marketplace" to help entrepreneurs get their supply and seal trade agreements.
Registered companies in Dubai are required to register with Tejari and have their own website, which would enable them to trade with foreign companies.
On the exhibition which 20 Malaysian companies took part, Mohamed Khaled said he is confident that Bumiputera products could find its place in West Asian market because of its quality.
Among the countries taking part in the three-day DIHAS 2006 are Brunei, United States, the Philippines and Brazil.
