US Company Wins Top Halal Award
KUALA LUMPUR, May 8 (Bernama) -- A US company which changed traditionally beef-based products into turkey-based products following the US beef export ban in 2004, was chosen as the winner of the "Best Halal Product" at The Halal Journal Awards here Monday night.
Iowa-based Midamar Corporation came out with an award-winning range of turkey products such as its top-selling turkey topping pizza and turkey sausage with pepperoni pizza for its domestic and overseas retail and food service sectors.
This was after the popular beef-based bacon and sausage items that were widely used in the retail, hospitality and food service sectors were suddenly not available from US suppliers following the US beef export ban that started in 2004.
Its president Bill Aossey received the award from Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.
The "5,000 Mini's" campaign in 2005 won the "Most Creative Marketing Campaign" award for Al Islami of Dubai.
In the campaign, the company gave away both real and model Mini Cooper cars.
Microlink of Malaysia won the "Best Islamic Financial Service or Product" award.
The company develops flexible open-source software modules, which ensure that its Islamic banking software can be plugged into any conventional banking software.
Other winners included Johor Corporation for "Best Corporate Social Responsibility Programme", LSG Sky Chefs-Brahims Sdn Bhd for "Travel and Hospitality", Malaysian International Halal Showcase for "Best Halal-Related Service Provider" and Thailand's Chulalongkorn University's Halal Science Centre for "Best Innovation in Halal Industry".
Datuk Jamaluddin Abdul Kadir received the "Outstanding Personal Achievement in the Halal Industry" award for his success in building Prima Agri-Products from a butcher shop into a successful company exporting over 200 different products to Europe, the Middle East and Southeast Asia.
