Arab News - 16/11/2005
RIYADH, 16 November 2005 — The United Kingdom's second largest full service airline known as "bmi airline" has announced plans to introduce a three-times-weekly Heathrow-Jeddah service from April next year following the successful launch of its London-Riyadh service recently. The announcement was made by Ravi Pikle, bmi's commercial development manager, here yesterday.
Pikle said that the bmi launched a three-times-weekly service between Heathrow and Riyadh on Sept. 1 and had seen strong bookings in both standard and premium classes. The luncheon press briefing at the local Radisson Hotel was also attended by Bosco Rodrigues, GSA manager of Portfolio Travel Limited and Shahid Farid, bmi sales manager for Saudi operation.
Spelling out the salient features of bmi flights, Pikle said that "we were offering a chef on board to make the journey more enjoyable. This unique service, available in the business, offers food to the highest restaurant standard." "With 16-inch leg room with many other many features, bmi is widely known to be the most friendly carrier with a better ambience," said the bmi official, while referring to the flights reaching London at a convenient time at 5.55 am.
He said that the business class passengers could also avail dedicated check-in facilities, access business lounges with priority in boarding and luxurious comfort kit. "In fact, we are offering best in the Saudi market in terms of price and facilities," said the bmi official. He said that "we were happy with the welcome we have received in Saudi Arabia, not just from the authorities but from the market. It is clear there is a real appetite for service from a British carrier on this route."
He pointed out that all flights on Saudi-UK sector offer a three-class service and are operated on an Airbus A330 aircraft. Passengers in all three classes can enjoy bmi's renowned in-flight service and entertainment as well as halal food on board, he added. He said that the bmi was a Star Alliance member. Hence, it offered its customers to earn and redeem mileage points under the Star Alliance scheme in which several carriers and players from hospitality industry are members.
Asked about the bmi's offices in Saudi Arabia, Pikle said that the bmi had already opened its local office at the Kingdom Towers, while the plans to open its offices in Jeddah and Dammam are in the pipeline.
