MardiTech and HDZ in RM40mil joint venture

MardiTech Corporation Sdn Bhd and HDZ Agricultural Corporation Bhd (HDZ) will team up with a global market leader to invest RM40mil to produce halal gelatine.

The project, to be located either in Penang or Malacca was expected to turn Malaysia into a leading producer of halal gelatine in South-East Asia, HDZ executive chairman Datuk Hisham Zainal Abidin said.

The move would help Malaysia produce halal gelatine for use in confectionery and bakery products, meat and sausages, dairy products, desserts and beverages in the Muslim world, he said at the signing of a partnership agreement between MardiTech and HDZ.

It is one of three strategic projects to be implemented under the partnership over a five-year period.

Another project is the establishment of Malaysia's first sustainable aquaculture industrial zone (AIZ) in Sarawak. Hisham said that Phase 1 of the AIZ would be achieved within five years with a private sector investment of RM50mil.

The project will start when the Malaysia Fisheries Development Board upgrades its research station in Telaga Air, Sarawak.

Hisham said a multi-disciplinary team of local and foreign experts and investors had been mobilised for the project.

And the third project to be implemented under the partnership would be the commercial production of goat and cattle using land and feed available in Negeri Sembilan and Pahang, Hisham said. – Bernama
