The Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre’s (KLCC) Chinese, Western, Cold, Pastry and Malay kitchens have been certified Halal by Malaysian Halal authority Jabatan Kemajuan Islam Malaysia.

The Halal certification confirms that every item, ingredient, manufacturer, supplier, process and procedure at the centre has been audited by JAKIM and certified Halal.

Based on the Malaysian Standards, the centre has complied with all stringent procedures and detailed analysis related to the Halal process. JAKIM conducted a physical site inspection of the centre’s storage area, cold room, process plant and handling aspects during production and packaging, general hygiene, quality control and assurance practices.

“As a venue provider offering services to an international clientele in a country where Islam is the official religion, the centre has always been cognisant of the importance of sourcing the food and produce for all its kitchens from Halal-certified domestic and international suppliers,” said KLCC GM, Datuk Peter Brokenshire. “We are therefore proud to receive Halal certification for all our kitchens and, as Malaysia’s premier convention facility, we are committed to setting the example by complying with, and where possible exceeding, relevant Malaysian food safety legislation and other related requirements as set by JAKIM and the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur.”

The centre’s Halal certification process took eight months, from application to certification. During that period, the venue was required to set-up an in-house Halal committee to constantly review its kitchen processes and procedures to ensure all regulations are complied with.
