Rural products need to be promoted as viable and attractive items that meet the taste of consumers in an effort to boost its network value in the market, said Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal.
He said this method could convince the people that rural products were actually of quality and guaranteed to be Halal.
"This belief must be imbued in the mind of consumers so that they will have confidence in our own products," he said in his speech at the Gala Halfest and Mara Entrepreneurship Award dinner here Saturday night.
The text of his speech was read by Mara chairman Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh.
Shafie also urged Bumiputera entrepreneurs, who were chosen for the awards, to become role models for the young generation.
"Successful Mara entrepreneurs must be prepared to share their experience and pave the way for other Bumiputera entrepreneurs to follow," he said.
At the function, Nor Arfa Holdings received the Corporate Entrepreneurship Award and cash prize of RM30, 000, a plaque and a certificate of appreciation while Mysysnet Sdn Bhd received the Techno entrepreneurship Award and Oli Collections Sdn Bhd won the Retail Entrepreneurship Award.
