A petition has been set up to add Halal meat to the menu at the new Nando’s restaurant in Peterborough city centre.
It was created by resident Mohammed Haleem, who said: “The Company has been contacted and states it currently has no plans to make the Peterborough branch Halal.
“I, with others, find this unacceptable as Peterborough is a diverse city and does have a large Muslim population.”
Nando’s has 54 branches which do serve Halal meat.
A Nando’s spokeswoman said: “Nando’s welcomes everyone into our restaurants, regardless of their beliefs.
“When deciding which restaurants serve Halal, we have a range of various business criteria that has to be met.”
The petition is on www.petitiononline.co.uk
