Malaysia's main religious council has in a fatwa ruled that Muslims can drink non-alcoholic Barbican's “beer” as it is not intoxicating.

Barbican's “beer”, popular in Middle East, has a very less amount of alcohol and is also not intoxicating, National Fatwa Council said.

"Hence, such drinks are allowed to be consumed by Muslims in line with the decision made by the council at its previous muzakarah or discussions (in 1984, 1987, 1988 and last year)," National Fatwa Council chairman Professor Emeritus Dr Abdul Shukor Husin said here.

"With that decision, Muslims need not worry about the status of these drinks as they are Halal," he said.
