As the face of business changes rapidly within the evolving global Halal market, understanding the different areas and getting to the heart of issues are crucial.
This rationale led to the establishment of The World Halal Forum, to act as a platform for resolving industry challenges on a global level. Fast becoming the focal point of the global Halal industry, the need to address concerns on a more regional level is seen as imperative.
This then led to the formation of the World Halal Forum–Industry Dialogues (WHF-ID) - a platform to address regional concerns faced by the industry players, governments, and stakeholders alike. The next instalment of WHF-ID is in Johannesburg, South Africa, which will be held on the 17th of July 2007.
The half-day dialogue will focus on key areas deemed crucial in further developing the Halal industry in South Africa, including development of the local industry and identifying opportunities for growth; South Africa’s role to play regionally, leveraging from South African Halal certification bodies, roles of Halal in agriculture and highlight of global trends effecting South Africa.
With a population of over 44 million (2% Muslim) linked with a real growth rate of 4.6%, Halal is seen to be playing a major role in South Africa in the years to come. This is supported, also by the fact that the US, UK, Japan, Germany, Netherlands, China, France, Saudi Arabia, and Iran are South Africa’s major trading partners.
This, coupled with a strengthening agriculture sector that boosts corn, wheat, sugarcane, fruits, vegetables, beef, poultry, mutton, wool, dairy products production, will certainly urge the growth of the Halal industry in South Africa. Winning the bid to host the World Cup 2010 has also created a lot of confidence there.
