A first of its kind ‘Halal Index’ will be unveiled at the upcoming World Halal Forum (WHF) 2011, which will serve to position Halal as a new Asset Class within Islamic Finance. The Halal Index will comprise of over 200 publicly-listed food producers in the Muslim world with a combined market cap of over USD100 billion.
This launch is in line with the new direction for World Halal Forum, which will look into the convergence of two massive industries – Islamic Finance and the Halal sectors – into one single Halal Economy estimated to be worth in the trillions of US Dollars. The theme for WHF 2011 is “Towards a Halal Economy: The Power of Values in Global Markets”. The Halal Economy holds much promise to both Muslims and non-Muslims worldwide as it serves 1.8 billion Muslims worldwide and is dubbed by some as “recession proof” as when the rest of the economies showed a slump during the recent economy crisis, both Islamic Finance and the Halal industry were little affected and even continued to rise. It is also an industry that is based on ethical practices and values; a tag that is increasingly demanded by consumers of today.
Making the first step in addressing larger issues in the Halal industry, the World Halal Forum will bring together cutting edge speakers from across the world to initiate the concept of merging two massive Shariah-compliant industries. The line-up of speakers features industry stalwarts such as Rushdi Siddiqui (Global Head Islamic Finance, Thomson Reuters USA), Rafe Haneef (Executive Director and CEO, HSBC Amanah Malaysia Berhad, and Managing Director Global Markets, HSBC Amanah), (Daud Vicary Abdullah, Global Leader of Islamic Finance, Deloitte).
The World Halal Forum, now in its 6th year, is the world’s most sought after premier Halal industry event and has a proven track record as a crucial platform that plays a major role in determining the direction of the global Halal industry. It has recently come into its own; moving out from the patronage of its founding company KasehDia into a Not For Profit entity driven by the industry.
