The Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA) handed over a new mosque built at Kampong Lorong Tiga Selatan to the people of Seria.
Present at the mosque to witness the handover was Dato Paduka Hj Md Mahdi Pehin Orang Kaya DiGadong Seri Diraja Dato Laila Utama Hj Abdul Rahman, permanent secretary at the ministry.
Pg Ali Pg Hj Mohd, head of Building and Maintenance Section under MoRA, handed over a framed photo of the new mosque to signify the handing over of the mosque to Hj Amir Hisham Hj Masri, assistant director of Mosque Affairs under the Department of Religious Affairs.
The assistant director in turn handed the photo over to Imam Hj Ibrahim Hj Md Daud, of the Lorong Tiga Selatan Seria Mosque.
The mosque project, with a land area of three acres, is build by Nora Construction Sdn Bhd. The construction started in July 2009 and was completed last November at a cost of $993,142. The mosque will be able to host about 1,000 people at one time, and consist of a male prayer hall, female prayer room, office for staff of the mosque, library and restrooms.
There are also plans currently being discussed to convert one of the rooms available to become a religious service centre to provide religious services such as conversions and marriages, which were previously only available in Bandar Seri Begawan.
The permanent secretary then paid a visit to the Jamalul Alam Mosque in Kuala Belait, and also witnessed the handing over of an office for the Halal Food Control Section in Belait District.
The office is located along Jalan Dato Shahbandar, and will help serve the community and businesses in Belait in their application for any Halal related certifications and processing. -- Courtesy of The Brunei Times
