Greater Awareness on Importance of Halal Certificate in Sarawak

Original Article Source: Bernama

There is now greater demand for the 'Halal' (permissible) certificates which had been issued by the Sarawak Islamic Religious Council (MAIS) since Dec 2004 by local companies intending to penetrate markets outside Sarawak and abroad.

Assistant Minister (Islamic Affairs) in the Chief Minister's Office Datuk Daud Abdul Rahman said that since its introduction more than five years ago, a total of 815 applications had been received and of the total, 493 had obtained the certificates.

"We received many feedbacks from holders of the 'Halal' certificate whose business had grown and their profit had increased," he said at a 'Halal' certificate presentation ceremony, here Wednesday.

He said the market potentials for local products such as tebaloi, chips, pepper and layered cakes from Sarawak would be much better if the producers had obtained the 'Halal' certificate. -- BERNAMA
