While the awareness level is increasing, most European consumers still regard meat and meat-based products as the core priorities of Halal, thus placing great emphasis on Halal assurance systems and Halal certifications. Based on the field research conducted between 2007 and 2008, the average awareness level for meat and meat-based products was above 95 per cent. Muslims generally have the highest awareness level of Halal meat and meat-based products without any significant variation. However, when the products in question are processed foods, cosmetics and pharmaceuticals, significant levels of variation occurs.
