Plans are underway to build a £150m Super Halal Industrial Park in South Wales, potentially creating up to 3,000 jobs, reports claim.

Halal Industries managing director, Mahesh Jayanarayan said his company had identified a 100-acre site for the project and had already discussed it with the Assembly Government, according to walesonline.co.uk,

The proposed industrial park for Islamic goods and produce would include services such as storage freezers, a product packing centre, raw material storage for food production, meat selection and processing as well as research and development.

The Halal sector in the UK is estimated to be worth between £2bn and £4bn and if successful, the project could be rolled out to other European countries.

Jayanarayan described Wales as an attractive option because of its meat industries and affordable land prices.

Halal Industries, a private equity company, is raising funds for the project, which could launch in three to five years, in the capital markets, through government grants and by finding partners such as supermarket chains and multinational food manufacturers.

A Welsh Assembly Government spokesperson described the plans as “tentative proposals at their very early stages of development”.
