Menteri Besar of Perlis attends the WHF 2008 Gala Dinner

Filed Under: World Halal Forum 2008

The first day of the World Halal Forum (WHF) 2008 was capped by the glittering Gala Dinner in the evening, the highlight being the presentation of the sought after Halal Journal Awards. The Awards is industry recognition for groups, companies or individuals who have pioneered ideas, actions and products producing far-reaching benefits for all.

The Gala Dinner was attended by more than 900 guests, including Ambassadors, Ministers and heads of companies. A notable mention was the Menteri Besar of Perlis, Dato' Seri Dr. Md Isa bin Sabu.

His presence signifies Perlis appreciation of the significance of partaking in the Halal industry. Apart from padi cultivation and sugarcane, the soil in Perlis is also conducive for cultivation of fruits such as mangoes and watermelon.

Perlis playing a significant role in the Halal industry is pivotal. A Halal park in Perlis now creates an agriculture link to both Malaysia and Southern Thailand. This positions Perlis as a state with massive investment potential.

The establishment of a research and development (R&D) centre, "Perlis Seed", by Sime Darby Berhad and the construction of a coastal highway between Perlis and Simpang Empat in Perak would also catalyse the development of the state.

Perlis’ capital, Padang Besar – a tax-free border town, will be developed as a Halal logistics centre to propel Perlis's growth in line with the development of the Northern Corridor Economic Region (NCER).Together with the Halal hub being developed in Padang Besar, it could make Perlis a Halal logistics centre in the middle of the Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Growth Triangle (IMT-GT).
