As a platform to strengthen ties between countries and to encourage unity and understanding as well as to create opportunities towards further growth, development and prosperity of the Halal industry, the Sarawak state government saw the third World Halal Forum as the perfect event to promote Sarawak as a preferred destination for Halal production.
Chief Minister Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud attended the Third World Halal Forum to witness the MoU signing between Tanjung Manis Food and Industrial Park and the Halal Industry Development Corporation (HDC). The MoU was signed with HDC to develop full-fledged Halal industrial parks.
“The park will attract investments of up to RM20 billion and he envisioned it to be a major producer of high quality Halal products for the export market besides meeting the country’s food security strategies,” said Sarawak’s Chief Minister.
Tanjung Manis, a new township on the Rajang delta in Sarawak’s central region, is managed by the Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corporation (STIDC). Some 16,000ha of the township have been earmarked for the Halal Park. The Tanjung Manis Halal Park, strategically located on the west coast of Sarawak, the fastest growing and dynamic state in Malaysia, is the first one-stop Halal Park in East Malaysia for upstream and downstream Halal food and manufacturing activities.
Taiwan’s Sea Party Group will invest more than RM2bil to develop aquaculture, farming and food processing activities in the Tanjung Manis Halal Park over the next three to five years. The proposed investments include RM147mil for biotech prawn farming, RM141mil (eel farming), RM68mil (marine fishing), RM480mil (organic chicken and egg production facility), RM44mil (feed mill) and RM150mil (downstream processing factory).
The Tanjung Manis Halal Park is poised to set the benchmark for the production of Halal food products due to its emphasis on standards in terms of quality and safety.
